We all pray for it, get glimpses of it, talk about it, shout about, bring in an evangelist to bring one on……….But are we really experiencing revival ?
In my quiet time with the Lord this morning I felt like the He was telling me something the bible states over and over, the key to revival is repentance.
One of the greatest examples we have of this in God’s word , is the story of the reluctant prophet Jonah called by God to speak to the city of Nineveh.
Nineveh was a great city the word of God declares. But, their wicked ways had come up before the Lord and He was going to destroy it.
Jonah…… did not want to go and proclaim the Word of God to Nineveh …..An entire people could have been lost for his disobedience……
One of the most amazing portions of scripture relating to this subject , to me, is this ……..
Jon:3:4: And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
Jon:3:5: So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
Jon:3:6: For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
Jon:3:7: And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Jon:3:8: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Jon:3:9: Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Jon:3:10: And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
This is such an awesome example to us today……
Jonah enters the city with the word of God, proclaims it, the people believe God, they call a solemn fast, cover themselves in sackcloth and ashes at the decree of the King and hope for God’s mercy…….
What would happen if the proclamation to repent was made today to this nation? Would we believe it ?
Would we call a fast, cover-ourselves and turn from our evil ways and hope and pray for God’s mercy ? Would revival come?
God’s Word gives us the answer: 2Ch:7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Right on sister.
We would rather try to buy revival.
We do not want to hurt our pride.
Thanks for the post and God bless you.
good posting, thanks for sharing this one.
Manthano~~
Amen...God calls us to examine ourselves!
Blessings, GG
Mike~~
Thanks. I speak it to myself first, sitting at the Lord's feet.

Amen!!! What an exciting post GrammyGoo! Self examination of "the heart". Disobedience is so convenient many times for us out of wanting to stay in our comfort zone. Jonah even though did not initially want to go and proclaim the Good News, did and the result was amazing!!!
Today: Much more difficult, I believe. Although the 'body of the church' is craving for a revival, as I am and many are craving for a revival, I fear it would be much more difficult in this day and age as it was in Johah's time.
(((JBR))...
God's word never returns void ;-).
I am overcome with the response of the people of Nineveh....a total turning unto God...my sweet husband reminded me this morning, it is the precious conviction of the Holy Ghost, that brings our hearts to repentance.

Thank you for putting this self examination before me, GG. It certainly is something to think and pray about ~ and listen for His answer.

Isn't the Lord so good to us! He always leads us into truth. His word never fails us, and we can always find the answer there!
We always have sure footing when we are on the Rock!

Love this post. I heard this exact message at church this weekend. God is calling us to repentance. I am praying with you!
I am praying also that God would fill me with His Spirit and give me a Holy Boldness to talk to people about this. Really hard for me sometimes.
Blessings,
Tammy
Tammy,
Amen.....God still moves mountains...When we cry out to Him.
Psalms:51:10: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalms:51:11: Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Psalms:51:12: Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Blessings, GG
