Fishers of Men........

I love the story in Luke of the calling of Peter.............

Lu:5:3: And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
Lu:5:4: Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.Lu:5:5: And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Lu:5:6: And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
Lu:5:7: And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
Lu:5:8: When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Lu:5:9: For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
Lu:5:10: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
Lu:5:11: And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

My husband and I were in York, Maine several years ago. We were staying in a place we love to stay when we are there. It is on the cliffs above the rocks and beach directly on the ocean.

The views are breath-taking. It was a beautiful cool evening and as we sat outside watching the ocean in the moon-light.

From the cliffs in our Adirondack chairs, covered in our flannel throws drinking our hot chocolate talking about the majesty of God's creation, we watched as four rugged and large men appeared on the beach.

They were quiet and very methodical as they began to unpack their gear and dress. The scene was very poignant. Almost as if we were watching something we were allowed to see. They walked out into the ocean about hip deep and began to fish.

They caught fish after fish for over an hour. Never making a noise and perfectly in time with each other. They left after a while as quietly as they came. My husband and I went in after they left.

Neither of us really spoke the entire time we were watching the men. I asked my husband, what he had thought of the scene we had witnessed. We were both in agreement it reminded us of the calling of the disciples to become fishers of men. My husband has asked me for years to do a painting of that evening. I have never been able to capture what we witnessed on canvas.

Jesus has called each of us to be fishers of men............. My prayer is that we are answering the call.

Grammy those types of moments make such a lasting impression. I almost could hear God's voice, saying, "Be still, watch, this is for you."
What an absolutely wonderful end to what sounds like a beautiful day you two had. Thank you for sharing it with us. HUGS!

This was such a God moment for us. I have tried so many times to recapture the vividness of that moment on canvas to no avail. Even with dear hubby's promptings.

I think it was a special memory for us to share and keep on the canavs of our hearts and minds.
